i finally got a chance to sit down over the weekend and read the new book by mitchell gold and bob williams, the comfortable home: how to invest in your nest and live well for less. i have to say that it is easy to read and also very easy on the eyes. beautiful interiors grace the entire book.
mitchell and bob have simplified the process of designing a home and provided a wonderful step-by-step “how to” guide to help all readers create a comfortable, livable home.
they start the book off by explaining easy ways to plan for decorating your space. they also give tips from measuring to color selection to accessorizing.
once they’ve gotten you started they take you through room-by-room chapters where they give helpful hints for perfecting each room. they provide space plan examples for the different rooms and also provide suggested pairings to help you create a particular overall look.
although each chapter discusses a different room there are many tips that can be used in any room of your house.
my favorite parts of the book are the “homes we love” sections spread throughout the book. they highlight different homes and define the styles of each home as well as feature numerous pictures. the modern cottage home is by far my fave.
the revitalized ranch comes in at a close second.
the comfortable home is a great book for someone who needs a little extra help when it comes to designing their home. it’s also a wonderful book for those who don’t need help but love to look at beautiful homes.

My kitchen is the most comfy to me (and my neighbors). We tend to gravitate to that area for snacks/drinks/playing cards at the breakfast table. It turns into a "help yourself" gathering of several couples from the neighborhood on many weekends, and that's just how I like it. I want all of our good friends to feel like they can step into my kitchen and grab a bite or drink, without me having to hover over them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great book. Like the idea of the step-by-step for each room. That makes a big difference when you come to a room that you might be having a problem with.
ReplyDeleteBedroom is the place that we relax in.
Have a great day.

I would love to win! Our living/dining combination is my favorite. Never thought I'd like any home as much as 204 Spruce, but I think this tiny 1350 space we now call ours could be right up there with that 2800 sq ft home! and it takes NO time to clean! Hope I'm chosen!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful book - that revitalized ranch is right up my alley!
ReplyDeleteThe most comfortable room in my home is my living room. It's probably the room we put the most effort into - and we love it!
When there's a crowd, folks congregate on a axis between our kitchen and the big window in our family room. It does take a bit of time to clean though. I like your choices: modern cottage home and revitalized ranch. They look livable, unfussy, and not minimal. They could survive a day with friends and family and look fine from start to finish.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun giveaway! I think my studio is the most comfortable room in my house. It's on the main level, so I can be in there and still talk to other people watching TV or in the kitchen. I love all the shelves and work space. The next thing I am going to do to the room is get new lighting put in. I have noticed that since the days are getting so short it's harder to work in there at night. I would love to read about the book's lighting suggestions! I bet they are excellent.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and what a great giveaway! My living room is most comfortable, but I would love to read more tips about decorating a stylish and comfortable bedroom.
ReplyDeleteThe layout of the book looks great and the photos are beautiful! My most comfortable room in the house is my family room. I love the warm tones and the accents that fit our family's personality!
ReplyDeleteI have a new found love for decorating and would love to relax in my most confortable room, my bedroom, reading this book and getting ideas to make the rest of my house comfortable.
ReplyDeleteThis book looks wonderful! I think my most comfortable room is our living room. We spend a ton of time there and it just feels warm and inviting.
ReplyDeleteThe family room is the most comfortable. I love when people who have never been to my house tell me how homey it is. Best compliment.
ReplyDeleteRecently discovered your blog and am enjoying it! My living room is my most comfortable room...warm, cozy, and fortunately the most baby proofed for my little guy. The book is beautiful and would be a source of inspiration for decorating my home.
ReplyDeleteWe have a comfy new sofa....but really, creating a comfortable room is why we hired you! Can't wait to get started.
ReplyDeleteMy bedroom is the most comfortable room in my apartment - lots of pillows, plush linnens, dark colors, and natural light.
ReplyDeleteMy bedroom is the most comfortable room in my house. I've worked really hard to make it my sanctuary, and everyday I can't wait to crawl into bed and relax and enjoy - and I have the most amazing view of Atlanta!
ReplyDeleteMy living room is the most comfortable in the house. It's small since it's in a small 1920's bungalow but cozy and stylish.
ReplyDeleteMy living room is my favorite. Especially at this time of year enjoying the warmth from my fireplace. But the rest of my house needs help and would love to win the book to give me good tips.
