mary beth's homework

8.13.2009

mary beth's living room is almost complete. i've decided to give her some homework to do on her own since there is so little that needs to be done to complete the living room. here is the previous post i did on mary beth's renovation.
this is a homework photo that shows where everything should go.
on the windows, instead of installing blinds i've selected woven shades. these can be found at home depot, target and a variety of other stores. depending on the size of your window you can possibly get away with store bought woven shades vs. custom shades. here are a few beautiful photos of rooms where woven shades have been installed.

over the bench in the entry i'm suggesting a grouping of mirrors. they should vary in size and shape. it could be a combination of framed and unframed. here is a set that i found at pottery barn online. i wouldn't use the votive holders though. mary beth could also pick up randomly sized mirrors at designer discount stores as she comes across them.

there is no right or wrong way to do a grouping. here are some photos of mirror groupings.

for the wall to the right of the bench i think mary beth should find large antique shutters and lean them against the wall. to accent the color scheme they should be painted blue. the blue should be similar to the light blue in the inspiration fabric shown on my previous blog. spray paint would be the easiest way to do this. you can find antique shutters at architectural salvage stores or at antique stores. here are some examples of shutters.

something like this arched set of shutters would be great. they should be at least 68" tall.

for the accent table beside the sofa i am suggesting something with character. since there isn't too much space in between the club chair and the sofa the table shouldn't be very large. here is a photo of a small accent table that would work perfectly. this table is manufactured by Bramble but something similar could easily be found at an antique store.

here is another tiered table by bramble. keep these tiered tables in mind when shopping around at antique stores. a painted piece would be best but remember that if you find a piece that isn't the right color you can always paint it yourself.

mary beth, good luck with all your homework. i can't wait to see how it turns out!
